The New Media (NM) Department at UNC Asheville is located in Zeis Hall, an 86,000 square-foot building houses 44 teaching and research labs and is also the home of the Chemistry, Biology and Pharmacy departments.

We have state-of-the-art computer labs, equipment, and print facilities available for student use for class projects.

Our computer labs, Zeis 201 and 203, are each equipped with 16 Intel Quad-Core iMac computers, each with an additional Apple LCD Cinema Display and Wacom tablet. There is a built-in 5.1 surround sound system and a HD video projector in each lab for new media presentations. Applications include Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Studio Pro, Autodesk Maya, Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Firefox, Safari, Quicktime, GarageBand, and a variety of audio-video utilities and open source programs. Access to the lab is controlled, and only students enrolled in NM courses are permitted to use the facility.

The video-editing suite, Zeis 221, consists of 2 iMac Quad-Core computer stations, each with an additional 30" Apple Cinema Display and a 5.1 surround sound system. Upper level video and computer animation students with their instructor's permission may obtain the access to the lab.

Zeis 239 is our New Media Production Lab with two large format Epson Stylus PRO 4800 printers, an HP Color LaserJet 3800dtn, and other inkjet and laser printers used in print classes.

Zeis 202 serves as a seminar room for large group discussions and class meetings, and the conference room, Zeis 208 is used for small seminars and meetings.

Additionally, the NM Department has a variety of digital video and audio equipment, lighting kits, and digital cameras available for NM student checkout.
